I wanted to share my baby boys nursery. My “baby” boy is now two and half! Where does the time go? We haven’t changed his room yet, maybe we will tackle a change in a year. Luckily, I loved the paint color of the room already, so we didn’t change it. It is a very pale blue color and I would have kept rather our child was a boy or a girl. I knew I wanted to keep the color scheme mostly neutral and a bit woodsy for a little boy. Here is how I achieved this look.
I think most people start with the crib. I found a couple cribs I loved from Restoration Hardware, but I just couldn’t bring myself to cough up the money. I found this crib at Target and I just loved the unique color. It’s a grey/brown and it worked perfect for the space. Since the crib was darker in color I wanted a lighter color chair and ottoman. I found the chair from K-Mart and I had to look every where for this ottoman! Now, I can find them everywhere, Home Goods has full aisles of them, but two years ago they weren’t so easy to find. I honestly can not remember where I ended up finding this one.
One of my favorite accents in Rutledge’s room are his bear and porcupine pillows. I ordered these from a local shop, Gingiber, you can find them on Instagram. Most pillows are so expensive, which is why I’m a huge fan of pillow covers! I found my pillow covers at Hobby Lobby and the two throws came from TJ Maxx/Home Goods, all of which are my favorite stores! It took me a little time to find the perfect curtains, but TJ Maxx never lets me down! The curtains match perfectly with the crib.
This dresser is by far my favorite piece in Rutledge’s room. Why? Because my husband built it! We really needed a dresser that had space for hanging. We designed the dresser and my husband built it. We had the paint matched to the crib and I picked out the cutest knobs from Hobby Lobby.
Never in my dreams would I have thought finding crib sheets and a changing pad cover would be so hard! I looked for months before I found exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Etsy! I found a shop on Etsy called Sweet Dreams Bedding and they have the cutest prints for baby bedding. The birchwood pattern was perfect for his room. Here is a close up of the pattern.
I came across these animal prints from The Animal Print Shop and I just couldn’t resist them. They were more than what I wanted to pay, but I searched everywhere for something similar and at the time could not find anything. I mean, look at them, how cute are they?!
As pictured previously above his dresser, I hung these metal baskets and placed a few small stuffed animals in them.
One of the things that has been the most useful, is this utility cart. Again, I couldn’t find them anywhere two years ago and now they are everywhere! I eventually found mine from Ikea. I store diapers, wipes, lotions, powder, and diaper pale refills on this cart. It’s a cute storage piece that serves a huge purpose.
My son has so many blankets and stuffed animals. I fell in love with this wired oversized basket and it was perfect for storing his blankets and stuffies. I love the piece underneath it too. It’s almost like an oversized tool box. It stores some items we do not need anymore like his baby bjorn etc.
Lastly, this might seem silly, but I love the laundry hampers in his room. I found them at Home Goods and I ended up buying more for my husband and I’s room. I made his jacket rack myself out of an old piece of wood and some knobs from Hobby Lobby.
To this day I still love my sons room. It turned out perfect. I hope you found some inspiration in our design!
